The Failure Mode We See Most Often
Drywall installed directly against a foundation wall, with no air gap or vapour strategy, traps moisture that migrates through the concrete. Within a couple of heating seasons, that moisture condenses behind the drywall, and mould growth begins in a space nobody can see until it reaches the baseboards or a musty smell becomes noticeable.
How We Sequence a Finished Basement
We build an assembly that lets any residual moisture in the concrete dry toward the interior air, rather than trapping it against organic materials. That means rigid foam against the wall, a service cavity, and a vapour-permeable approach appropriate to the specific wall assembly — not a one-size-fits-all stud-and-poly approach applied without regard for what's actually happening at the wall.
